Mary Jane’s have always reminded me of good little girls on their way to Sunday school.
The shoes, known for the strap across the instep of the foot, entered the teenage style realm when Dr Martens, at the height of their popularity in the ’90s, made a Mary Jane combat boot hybrid. Then, in 1998, this ladies’ footwear got the ultimate endorsement when Carrie Bradshaw proclaimed the Manolo Blahnik Mary Jane to be “an urban shoe myth”.
I have always loved Mary Jane style shoes; they are sexy without being gaudy.
Best of all, Mary Jane’s can be worn with dress pants, jeans, skirts and tights. Choose a pair of thin tights to avoid any unsightly bulging and pair them with the miniskirt that was way too short for bare legs this past summer.
I prefer an almond toe style Mary Jane shoe over the pointy platform variety. They are very classy looking and most times a bit more comfortable for every day wear. There are a ton of options out there. Mary Jane shoes come in every color imaginable, as well as lots of different styles, so go with whatever suits your personal style best.
My only word of caution: Avoid pairing your Mary Jane shoes with knee-socks, you will be mistaken for a schoolgirl.
Sexy Mary Jane style shoes are classic, adorable and go with just about any outfit!
